Husqvarna has long roots in the motorcycle industry, with the Motorcycle branch opening in 1903 in Huskvarna, Sweeden. By 1920 Husqvarna began producing its own engines starting with a 550cc 4-stroke. Kawasaki motorycles are manufactured by the Motorcycle & Engine division of Kawasaki Heavy Industries at plants in Japan, USA, Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand. The motorcycles have been produced since 1954.

KTM Sportmotorcycle AG is an Austrian motorcycle, bicycle and moped manufacturer. The company was founded in 1934 by engineer Hans Trunkenpolz in Mattighofen. It started out as a metal working shop and was named Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. In 1954 KTM began producing motorcycles.

Great attention has been paid to development of the new 450 cc, which will inevitably eventually replace the 400 cc, more due to market trends however than for reasons of trying to increase the performance of the already powerful 400 cc.
